Home Birth Energy Drink

Deciding what to eat and drink during your home birth is very personal. It may be meat, bread or vegetables, but you may also crave cake and biscuits, tea, water, lemonade and so on. Whatever your heart desires, make sure you have enough at home. One thing you can never have too much of is a home-birth energy drink. We will show you how to make one yourself. It is easy!
When it comes to food, preparation is everything. Cook several meals and dishes in advance, and make sure there are plenty of easy snacks for your doula and/or midwife. Preparing these dishes can also be a welcome distraction if your labour progresses slowly.
Some women cannot eat at all, however, but still need an energy boost. An isotonic energy drink is the best way to give yourself that energy. Making your own home-birth drink means you know it contains only the good stuff. Here is our recipe for a delicious isotonic home-birth energy drink. If you wish, you can make ice cubes and add them to your water whenever you like.
Isotonic Energy Drink Recipe
44ml grapefruit
piece of raw ginger
450ml water
3 teaspoons of honey
Directions: Add a few thin slices of ginger to a large cup of boiled water and leave them to infuse. Remove the ginger slices, squeeze in the grapefruit and stir in the honey. Allow the drink to cool before pouring it into your bottle, then chill it in the refrigerator.
Here is another natural option. Ginger has many health benefits, particularly its anti-inflammatory properties, which it shares with natural grapefruit juice. It is therefore a healthy drink that also contains vitamin C. For even more benefits, use manuka honey in your mixture.
PS: Do you not feel like making your own energy drink? Coconut water is nature’s natural energy drink—shhh.
