A Free and Fearless Online Mothers’ Group

A platform where expectant mothers, mothers and new parents can listen to fearless conversations. Dr Kaz Jaffe, founder of Wellbeing Chiropractic and the Mum’s The Word Podcast (MTW), has never followed the mainstream. As a chiropractor, she gives her clients more knowledge than they expect. MTW is an extension of that. It is a place to find detailed answers to questions about topics you may never have considered: a free and fearless online mothers’ group. We asked Dr Kaz Jaffe a few questions.
How did the idea for the podcast come about?
I was born and raised in Australia, but I have lived in Amsterdam for more than 11 years. The two birth cultures are very different. The way I gave birth here, a natural home water birth with a doula, would be seen as very alternative in Australia. I had to look beyond a lot of stigma and media coverage to work out what felt true for me. That is how MTW was born. That journey and everything I learned from it are woven into the podcast.
Is your main focus helping mothers make decisions?
Yes, although the podcast is a little selfish too. I get to welcome wonderful guests and learn from them. Their journeys intrigue me as well. But yes, the main focus is helping new mothers. The feedback I receive is wonderful. Mothers have come to the practice to tell me that I helped them decide to have a home birth. That is amazing.
What topics can we listen to?
It is not just about my thoughts; my guests have beautiful stories to tell. Topics such as lotus birth, delayed cord clamping and extended breastfeeding all come up. I wanted to make information more accessible to an international audience and save myself time too. I can direct clients with questions to the MTW website. It also gives guests an opportunity to share their knowledge with a wider audience and reach more people.
You now have 85 topics. Will there be more?
Originally, everything focused on children from birth to age five, from preconception through early parenthood. Information changes, though. What happened a few years ago may be different from what mothers experience now. For the time being, the 85 episodes offer mothers plenty of information to help them make free and fearless decisions.
